Recently I've been getting a lot of messages from people asking me to talk a bit more about the types of equipment I recommend for live streaming and to give some advice on different live stream setups. So, I thought I'd share with you my Live Streaming Backpack and give you a bit more detail about how I'm able to fit a powerful television studio on my back:
Full Kit List & Explanation
LowePro ProTactic 450 AW
Everything in my setup is kept safe by the Lowepro ProTactic 450 AW bag. It's predominantly a camera bag, but really you can customise it however you like & need. It comes with a bunch of velcro dividers and inserts allowing you to fully design and customise the bag to perfectly fit the equipment you need. I also love the fact that it comes with a bunch of pockets inside, as well as a sleeve to store your laptop. If you're looking for a strong bag to keep your equipment safe and sturdy while traveling about, I can't recommend this bag enough.
BlackMagic ATEM TVS HD
So this is the main powerhouse of my set up! The BlackMagic ATEM Television Studio HD is absolutely incredible (and amazing value for money). It's an 8 input professional production switcher. It includes 4 SDI and 4 HDMI inputs and it supports all formats up to 1080p60! The reason I love it is because it's just so portable but it comes packed full of features, making it the world’s smallest all in one broadcast switcher! I wont go too much into detail about everything it does, you can check out the BlackMagic website if you want that. BUT what I will say is that it's incredibly easy to use. I usually connect it up to my laptop via the ethernet port and then am able to full control everything using a dedicated software on my mac. It's brilliant!
Blackmagic Video Assist 4K
The BlackMagic Video Assist 4k is a brilliant 7” high resolution monitor with Ultra HD recorder! It accepts both HDMI and SDI inputs (and has both outputs too). It's jam packed full of features and scopes to help you get the perfect shot! To be completely honest, I don't use this thing to it's full potential, but the fact that it's small and can also be battery powered makes it perfect for this set up. I use it as a multiview monitor for the ATEM TVS HD, allowing me to view all the cameras on one screen along with my preview and program out. It's works perfectly in this type of set up!
BlackMagic HyperDeck Studio Mini
The BlackMagic HyperDeck Studio Mini is a miniaturized broadcast deck that’s so compact and portable you can use it anywhere! You get a professional deck that records and plays back broadcast quality 10-bit video as ProRes files on commonly available SD and UHS-II cards. It’s packed with features like 6G-SDI for working with all formats up to 2160p30, HDMI 2.0 for monitoring, dual SD card slots for non-stop recording and loads more! In my setup, I use the HyperDeck Studio Mini and my main recording device, so that I have a full clean recording of my program output.
BlackMagic Web Presenter
The BlackMagic Web Presenter should be in everyone's live streaming kit bag! It allows you to make any professional SDI and HDMI video source appear as a USB webcam for high quality streaming on the internet. It converts your input to a 720p output that is delivered via USB 2 to any Mac or PC. Your device will treat it just like a webcam, allowing you to use it in apps like Skype, Google Hangouts, OBS, Facebook Live, Periscope and many more! It's brilliant.
